State funding to public schools continues to decline and as a result, athletic budgets continue to be slashed at an alarming rate. This past year the Mount Pleasant School Board cut the MPHS and West Intermediate athletic budget by 52% or $186,000. The Mt. Pleasant Oiler Athletic Boosters recognize the need to supplement theathletic activities of our student-athleties and each year we play an even larger role in ensuring the athletic programs continue at MPHS and West Intermediate and that the students that wish to participate can do so.
Because of our commitment to the athletic programs at Mt. Pleasant High School and West Intermediate, the Boosters have generously provided more than $510,000 to athletics over the past six years. Purchases have been made for items such as varsity letters and awards, team uniforms, numerous pieces of equipment, banners, weight room renovations, video equipment, and between $16,000-20,000 each year in supporting families who cannot afford to pay the athletic fee. Prior to the start of the 2011-2012 academic year, the Sports Booster voted to provide an additional $66,000 in funding to the MPPS to ensure freshman and 7th and 8th grade athletics for our student-athletes.

Scholarships
The Sports Boosters exists to provide resources to further athletic experiences for our MPHS and West Intermediate student-athletes. In fulfilling this purpose, the Sports Boosters recognize that the pursuit of academic excellence is very important. To that end, the Booster organization established a scholarship as a demonstration of the Boosters' commitment to both athletic and academic excellence. The Sports Boosters organization annually awards college scholarships to a deserving male and female student-athlete. 2010 Scholarship recipients were: Krandall Williams and Blake Bambach.

Funding Appropriations Policy
The general policy of the Mt. Pleasant Oilers Athletic Boosters is to fund only those activities where all members of the team wishing to participate are included.
